Clipper 08.JUL.08 What’s July 4th without a parade? There was no shortage of parades across the county last Friday, and even before that when West Bountiful held its parade the week before. Centerville, above, staged its celebration before the heat of the day, complete with elaborate floats, such as the one pictured, to the ever-popular clowns and more. That was among the findings released by the Utah Office of the Legislative Auditor General late last week. The state audit was conducted in conjunction with one by the Davis County Clerk/Auditor’s office. However, Davis Behavioral Health officials said changes were being made and that the restructuring had been undertaken to provide better and broader service to clients. They also noted the action had the blessing of previous Davis County commissioners. The findings were released in a performance audit to the Legislative Audit Subcommittee of the Management Committee. MORENon-residential construction: ‘steady growth’ despite slump Tom Busselberg 08.JUL.08 BOUNTIFUL — There may be fewer rooftops going up with new homes, in the county. But nonresidential construction held “steady growth” during the first six months of the year. That’s the assessment of Robert Lindsay, Commerce CRG lead agent, commenting on the group’s just-released January-June 2008 commercial real estate report. “After several years of steaming hot growth, Davis County is still growing, but at a much slower rate,” he said. Lindsay characterized Layton and Syracuse as “shining stars” when it comes to showing continued residential and commercial growth. MORESecurities Division ‘work in progress’ Jenniffer Wardell 08.JUL.08 SALT LAKE CITY — Now that the state has released its audit critical of the Utah Securities Division, it’s time to decide who gets to work out the solutions. Centerville’s Francine Giani, executive director of the Utah Department of Commerce, acknowledges that its Securities Division is dealing with many of the problems outlined in last week’s audit released by the Office of the Legislative Auditor General. These include charges of coercive settlement tactics and certain people holding too much decision- making power.
